KQjunior: the museums for young visitors

A world full of stories awaits you as you follow in the footsteps of the seven KQ composers. And music is just the beginning. The last 300 years hold secrets, big and small, waiting to be discovered – and some of them even relate to your life today! Best of all, you can get creative yourself in the interactive track and compose your own piece of music!

In the footsteps of the KQ composers

Discover the world of the seven KQ composers: in the museums, they tell you about their lives, their music and their connection to Hamburg.

You can......

 ... listen to music

 ... watch short films

 ... browse through exciting stories

and learn a thing or two about Hamburg and the world of music along the way!

Hobbies, letters and a bicycle

The KQ composers did not only write music. Their traces in the museum tell quite different stories:

What was Georg Philipp Telemann's hobby?

What was the relationship between Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and his famous father?

What does a prima donna have to do with Johann Adolf Hasse?

Why were the letters from Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn so special?

Which composer was Johannes Brahms friends with?

And why did Gustav Mahler enjoy cycling so much?

You can become a composer too: Join in!

Have you always wanted to compose your own music? The KQ composers will accompany you through the museum and reveal their musical secrets along the way.

Pssst! In the interactive path, you will find everything you need to become a composer yourself. And at the end, the KQ wonder machine will even play your own piece of music.

Little readers – big with support

The children's audio track is aimed at children aged six to twelve who have already learned to read. To ensure success right from the start, we recommend reading together with an adult if necessary. All stories are written in simple language to make it even easier to get started.

About KomponistenQuartier Hamburg

The KomponistenQuartier Hamburg (Hamburg Composers' Quarter - KQ) unites six small museums dedicated to Georg Philipp Telemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann Adolf Hasse, Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, and Gustav Mahler. Located on the historic Peterstrasse, one of the Hanseatic city's most beautiful streets, visitors can explore their lives and works. All of them were connected to Hamburg through family, creative periods, encounters, or professional experiences.

Founded 2015 as a cooperation of six composers' societies, the KQ makes the rich and long-standing musical history of the city of Hamburg accessible and helps to continue this history. Music – History – Hamburg: three pillars whose multifaceted dimensions define the KQ’s mission and identity.
